As the eyes of the tennis world focus on London for the next two weeks, one of the stars of the game has taken a break from practising his serve to meet a special fan.
World number one tennis star Novak Djokovic, along with his girlfriend Jelena and their dog Pierre, took some time out from Wimbledon to meet Bella, a one-year-old Goldendoodle from rehoming charity Dogs Trust.
Originally called Honey, the energetic lady arrived at the charity’s centre in Canterbury after her previous owners could no longer care for her. It is now hoped her brush with Pierre, Jelena and Novak will increase her chances of finding a new home.
Novak, who takes to the courts in south-west London today (June 25, 2013), said: “Bella seemed more interested in the tennis balls, but it was great to meet her and I hope she finds a new home soon.
“I love dogs, so meeting Bella and getting to rename her was a real pleasure. She looks like she has the making of a great ball girl/dog!”
Dogs Trust cares for more than 16,000 stray and abandoned dogs each year through its network of 18 rehoming centres across the UK and one in Dublin.
