The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has opened a new small animal referral service, offering London-based vets access to specialists in the fields of dentistry, dermatology and exotics.
Referred cases can be assessed and managed on site with teaching hospital facilities, including a dedicated dental suite with digital dental radiography.
The school is also the first UK vet school to include dental radiography as a formal component of the undergraduate curriculum.
European Dental Specialist, Simone Kirby, said: “The dental referral service is offering a wide range of referral options to veterinarians in the London and Greater London area.
“Referrals are accepted for any kind of dentistry work for cats and dogs, such as dental radiography, challenging extractions and stomatitis, root canal treatments and treatments of significant malocclusions. In addition, oral surgery cases such as jaw fractures and oral mass lesions may be referred.
“The more involved cases will be dealt with in a multidisciplinary approach as required. I am very excited to be able to bring specialist dental care to London as part of a fantastic team here at ‘RVC London referrals’.”
European exotics specialist Joanna Hedley (pictured) added: “We are excited to now be able to offer a specialist referral service in Camden for a wide range of exotic pets and small mammals. In addition, we provide free email advice for local vets and are planning evening CPD events on different aspects of exotic pet medicine.
“It is a great opportunity to work with referring vets to help them provide the best possible care for their patients.”
