Companion Care Vets in Basildon, Essex has become one of the first general small animal practices in the country to invest in a computed tomography (CT) scanner.

The Toshiba Astelion Advance CT system is equipped with technology migrated from Toshiba’s premium CT scanners to deliver the best possible diagnostic results at minimum dose levels and in the shortest possible time.

Shola Idowu, joint venture partner of Basildon Companion Care Vets, said: “We’re delighted to be one of the first, if not the first, general small animal veterinary practice in the UK to be able to offer this revolutionary service of advanced scanning capability to our patients.”

Toshiba’s industry-leading Quantum Detector technology provides consistent high image quality across all clinical targets and in all imaging planes thanks to its unique 0.5mm detector cells, the smallest of any CT detector in the world.

Dr Idowu added: “It has been a significant investment for us, but allows us to greatly increase the speed, accuracy and range of the diseases we can now diagnose and treat.

“The last thing owners of sick pets want to do is travel for an unnecessary length of time to get them the veterinary care they need, so we hope the availability of our new scanning service will be helpful.”

A new room has been built within the Companion Care practice to accommodate the scanner. It means it will also be able to take in pets from other Essex practices that require a CT scan.

Dr Idowu said: “The feedback from pet owners has been fantastic. This type of innovative technology means we can provide the best service possible to our patients – something we’re very passionate about.”
