Jimmy Wilson was elected as the new president of the Sheep Veterinary Society (SVS) at its autumn conference held in Darlington.

He takes over from Fiona Lovatt who becomes senior vice president and is joined on the committee by new junior vice president Tim Bebbington.

The SVS brings together vets, advisors and flock owners from all over the UK, Europe and the wider world who are interested primarily in the welfare of sheep.

Mr Wilson said: “Sheep are farmed throughout the world and will live in marginal areas where nothing else will survive. They populate the remote areas of the country and especially in the area where I live, the Highlands and Islands in the west of Scotland.

“The society runs webinars throughout the year relating to sheep and their care. These webinars are very welcome to practitioners who live in remote areas and who are unable to travel to cities and towns to participate in other meetings.”

SVS is holding two conferences in the coming year in the Midlands area in the spring and on the Isle of Mull in the autumn.
