Reports of dogs suffering a disorder that causes skin lesions followed by signs of acute kidney injury have prompted the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) to publish a free podcast on the subject.
According to the RVC, the condition has affected a number of dogs in the United Kingdom over the last 18 months or so.
Further, histopathology in these cases has shown cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy – consistent with changes seen in a condition known as Alabama Rot, described in North America but not previously reported in the UK.
The podcast, published last week, features Dr Rosanne Jepson – an RVC lecturer in internal medicine and a member of the renal replacement therapy team at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals. In it, she discusses experiences of the disorder in the UK in an attempt to illustrate what is – or more accurately – what is not known about this disorder.
