A pet owner concerned by the stressful action of fitting and removing a traditional Elizabethan collar has designed a unique alternative that allows a pet access to food and water.
Cat owner Joanne Hobson hit upon the idea after her pet cat Olivia underwent surgery and refused to eat or drink during her recuperation period.
She told Vetsonline: “Olivia had to wear the traditional Elizabethan ‘cone’ collar after surgery for cancer of her nose, and she couldn’t – and wouldn’t – eat with it on. She got very stressed not being able to get to her food, and just as stressed when trying to get [her collar] back on her after having to take it off.
“Consequently she lost weight and I thought there had to be something better than this for poorly pets that they could possibly eat in – thus, EezyEat4Pets was born.”
The innovative new design of Elizabethan collar features a detachable front flap that can be removed and replaced quickly and easily, allowing pets to eat and drink normally without the added stress of having its owner removing and replacing the whole collar. The removable panel also means less mess, making it more hygienic.
Unlike traditional rigid plastic collars, EezyEat4Pets is made from a lightweight, flexible semi-transparent material with lint-lined edges, making it more comfortable and offering protection against dings and scratches if the pet bumps into doors or furniture. It also features soft loops on the neck edge for pets that wear a collar, ensuring a more secure fit.
The collars have been successfully trialled by Cats Protection – which called them “wonderful” – and are currently being tested by UK veterinary charity PDSA.
Available in various sizes, from extra small to XXX Large, prices start at just £6.99.
