A new larger oxygen tent has been launched designed especially for breathless brachycephalic breeds.
Manufacturer MDC has introduced a larger version of its Smart Oxygen tent to house popular brachycephalic breeds, such as the shih-tzu and Boston terrier, after receiving regular requests from vets asking for a larger version.
The original product had been used to treat cases of dyspnoea in cats, birds, exotics and other animals since its release in 2014.
MDC director Melvyn Driver said: “Vets told us being able to provide oxygen quickly and economically to flat-nosed dogs in respiratory crisis was essential, and restraint and masking can cause further distress.
“It was a relatively easy process for us to scale up a product we already knew was working so well, but it’s saddening to think we have had to create a product for a condition that I understand, with careful breeding, need not occur.”
The Smart Oxygen tent is available online or from your wholesaler and will be on display at this year’s BSAVA Congress on stand 617.
