The IFAH-Europe council has reappointed Jochen Wieda (Intervet/ScheringPlough) as its chairman for 2009-2011, following the federation’s fifthgeneral assembly.
He will be supported by Albert Bourla (Pfizer) and Martin Schneidereit (BfT, Germany, who was also re-elected) as vice-chairmen. Folkert Kamphuis (Novartis) was also reconfirmed as treasurer.
The IFAH-Europe council will lead the federation’s strategic objectives for the next two years with input from the IFAH-Europe operating committees, working parties and ad-hoc groups supported by the Brussels-based secretariat.
The programme of activities of IFAH-Europe for 2010 was also endorsed by the general assembly. It covers areas such as regulatory affairs – with IFAH-Europe’s 1-1-1 concept for regulatory review, data protection, antibiotics, input to international harmonisation and the European Platform for Alternatives to Animal Testing.
Food chain activities will be linked to the EPRUMA initiative and other stakeholder platforms, as well as to contributing to the EU Animal Health Strategy. A Conference is planned in June 2010 to open the debate on food chain issues. IFAH-Europe will also pursue its outreach effort on healthy companion animals by facilitating the 5th European Pet Night in February 2010.
“Jochen brings considerable experience in working in the trade association environment to the Council. Albert brings experience from the business environment to the table and Martin has great experience in the political environment. Along with the other Council members, we look forward to a dynamic period ahead”, stated Declan O’ Brien, Managing Director, IFAH-Europe.
