The Southampton branch of the Blue Cross has been gifted a £500 grant from insurer Petplan.

Named as the January 2014 Petplan charity prize draw winner, Blue Cross Southampton is now able to expand its cat care facilities, thanks to the donation.

Lara Alford, community fund-raiser for the charity said: “We’re really thrilled to have won Petplan’s prize draw this month – it’s a lovely start to the year.

“Sadly, there are always unwanted and abandoned cats that need our help, and fantastic donations like this help us to care for more pets at our centre until they are able to find happy new homes.”

Isabella von Mesterhazy, head of marketing at Petplan, added: “At Petplan we work with more than 1,200 animal charities, more than any other insurer. We understand the challenges animal charities face and provide four weeks’ free insurance to anyone rehoming a pet from one of our animal charities.”
