Davies Veterinary Specialists (DVS) has presented a £5,500 cheque to charity after some impressive fund-raising by staff was matched by their generous employer.
Raising money for DVS’ charity of the year Target Ovarian Cancer (TOC), industrious team members held a number of events, including:
- a summer strawberries and cream tea
- a Halloween soup kitchen
- toy sales
- a virtual Christmas card initiative
- the Great DVS Bake Off
- a loom bands sale
- tapas and cheese events
Along with friends and family, they did the 10km TOC walk, while VN Nichole Neate is using March to run 100 miles, blogging about her continued support of the charity along the way.
Having raised £2,500, the amount was matched – plus a bit more – by DVS, with a cheque for £5,500 being presented to TOC.
DVS managing director Clive Elwood, who presented the cheque, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing team of motivated professionals here at DVS.
“They have put as much heart into supporting our charity of the year as they do into helping our patients every day. We are proud to match the amount they have raised to help the excellent cause of TOC.”
Every year, DVS democratically chooses a charity to support. TOC was picked for 2016, it said, because several team members have had close ties with the charity over recent years.
Radiographer Sue Whitfield, for example, was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in 2013.
She said: “The TOC website was a valuable source of information for me – especially as I came to terms with my diagnosis and prognosis.
“I was so pleased when it was chosen as DVS’ charity of the year and even more so to hear DVS would match the total money raised.
“The amount of support I’ve received from my colleagues over the past three years had been incredible and it’s great to be able to raise so much money for such a brilliant charity.”
