Veterinary professionals are being offered a new package of support to help encourage owner compliance in cases of canine ear disease.

Dechra Veterinary Products has developed its dermatology partners in practice programme to support vets and vet nurses dealing with otitis externa – one of the most prevalent presenting conditions in dogs.

The new client compliance pack has been developed to assist practices in encouraging and ensuring treatment plans are followed by owners.

Dechra’s senior brand manager Roger Brown said: “We are committed to supporting vets and vet nurses as they deal with cases of otitis externa at a time when responsible use of antimicrobials is in the spotlight.

“It is essential owners comply with treatment programmes and vets are supported with involving owners, which can lead to better outcomes for dogs receiving treatment and can be good for developing the practice business as well.

“We know from our research, and from talking to the vets and vet nurses, owner compliance can be a barrier to successful first-time management and resolution of otitis externa.”

The pack contains a guide on good ear care, a treatment diary and consultation report, and a leaflet on kind handling techniques.
