Dogs Trust Merseyside is appealing for urgent donations of tinned dog food for its hungry, homeless hounds.

The charity, based in Huyton, Liverpool is caring for 82 dogs that are getting through around 1,200 tins a month.

Georgina Lowery, manager at the rehoming centre, said: “We rely on donations of tinned, wet dog food and people are incredibly generous, so it’s the first time we’ve almost run out this year.

“We feed the dogs dry food, which we have enough of, but most really enjoy wet food and a mixture often helps us entice them to eat when they first arrive if they are nervous.Anything anyone can donate would be fantastic.”

To donate any tinned food, telephone 0151 949 5515 or take it along to the centre on Whiston Lane, Huyton, Liverpool L36 6HP.

The centre is open 12pm to 4pm every day except Wednesdays, when it is closed.
