Bayer Animal Health launched an interactive map today (March 4, 2015) to help practices protect dogs against the growing threat posed by lungworm.

The first case of lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) was diagnosed in the UK in 1975.

Forty years later, the parasite is now endemic throughout much of the UK and has expanded from established “hot spots” into previously uninfected areas.

The map – available at – will provide a tool for veterinary professionals to monitor recent lungworm diagnoses, check historical data and share new cases of lungworm with the wider veterinary community.

Thousands of cases have already been logged using data from multiple sources including academic papers and records from IDEXX’s Angio Detect diagnostic test.

Dog owners can also check the risk in their area by visiting
