Medicine on a Budget
Despite the improving economic climate, may clients have limited financial reserve that they can afford to spend on their pets. Even when pets are insurer there are increasing numbers of policies that only provide £500-1000 per condition. As a result ‘medicine on a budget’ is becoming a routine part of many vets daily clinical challenge. The course aims to explore how cases can be tackled when the budget is limited to maximise the likelihood of a good outcome for the patient whilst ensuring that this is not achieved simply but not charging appropriately for work undertaken. In order to achieve good outcomes decision making needs to be clear whilst client communication and record keeping needs to be excellent. It also requires a clear understanding of the practice demographics particularly in respect of infectious disease allowing differential diagnoses to be appropriately ranked. For success a practice-wide approach needs to be taken, such as developing clinical frameworks, as well as having a clear understanding of the practice’s pricing structure. Intended for: Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses.
