Anaesthesia for Emergency Cases
Patients requiring anaesthesia for emergency procedures can be one of the most stressful challenges encountered in practice, so this course will aim to give nurses more confidence in dealing with these patients. We will look at common emergency presentations, such as caesarian sections, abdominal procedures and trauma patients, and look at how we can firstly prepare these patients prior to anaesthesia to improve the chances of a successful outcome, as well as the importance of planning for anaesthesia to ensure we have considered the problems we may encounter. We will look at commonly used drugs, including induction agents and analgesics, which may be used to minimize complications in these patients. Monitoring techniques will be discussed, as well as what to do when things go wrong.
