A team from Zoetis donned trainers and braved stormy weather to take on the world’s leading 10 mile running event – the Bupa Great South Run – in Portsmouth on October 27 to raise money for Hounds for Heroes, which the company has supported this year with its Pounds for Hounds initiative.
Led by assistant product manager Scott Wheway, who was still recovering from a knee injury before the race, the team also comprised Claire Lamb, Anna Cunningham and Diana Rhodes.
Mr Wheway said: “Hounds for Heroes’ founder Allen Parton mentioned the Great South Run to us at a meeting in April and we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our support for the charity and raise money as part of our Pounds for Hounds initiative.
“It was a daunting prospect and we lost some team members to injury while they were training but it was an exhilarating feeling to cross the finish line, especially after the notorious last two miles along the coast against very strong winds as the St Jude’s storm was brewing!”
Partnering with veterinary practices around the UK with its ‘Pounds for Hounds’ initiative, Zoetis has donated 25p for each dog vaccinated with its BronchiShield Kennel Cough vaccine to raise £20,000 for Hounds for Heroes to buy, train and support an assistance dog throughout its life.
Earlier this year, Zoetis also donated £20,000 to the charity to train Vanguard, one of the newest canine recruits.
Allen Parton said: “The Pounds for Hounds initiative with Zoetis was the first time we have partnered with a company to raise funds and we are delighted that so many vet practices took part in the campaign. Zoetis has been so supportive throughout our work with them that we were not surprised when the team offered to train for and run the Great South Run. Well done guys!”
