Television wildlife expert Chris Packham has spoken up for vets at a pet event.

Speaking at the National Pet Show, the television presenter and blogger for MyPetonline told visitors working with their vet it vital for their pets’ health.

The wildlife expert spent two days at the event in Birmingham, which was attended by more than 16,000 animal lovers.

As well as the vet finder, celebrity blogs and animal stories, MyPetonline carries latest alerts on confirmed and suspected cases of infectious pet diseases such as cat ’flu, parvovirus and kennel cough.

Mr Packham said: “I take looking after my dogs very seriously – ultimately, I’ve made a decision to be responsible for these dogs so I am constantly concerned about making sure they are happy and healthy, and working with my vet is at the heart of that.

“I travel a fair amount too and knowing I can contact my vet wherever I am in the world means everything.”

Elizabeth Peplow, editor of MyPetonline, added: “The website’s veterinary team were on hand in the MyPetonline Pet Health Centre throughout the show to offer advice on health care, talking to both new and existing pet owners.

“There was a lot of interest in the Big Flea Guarantee, with feedback that owners want to know how to find the most efficacious flea treatment and are also concerned about the prevention of tick bites in relation to the potential risks of Lyme disease.”
