As part of its commitment to provide vets and vet nurses with a host of support and tools to help them treat and manage their dermatology patients more effectively, Dechra Veterinary Products Ltd has recently launched its Dechra Derma veterinary support initiative.
As part of this commitment to understanding the dermatology needs of vets and vet nurses, Dechra has recently carried out a survey to find out more about how its Malaseb shampoo is used. 480 veterinary nurses across the UK completed the online survey, which produced very positive results.
Of those surveyed, 98% dispense Malaseb shampoo at their veterinary practice. The most important reasons given for its use included ease of use and a pleasant smell. Veterinary nurses were asked how important it is to have a product licensed with both antifungal and antibacterial activity when treating seborrhoeic dermatitis in dogs.
They were asked to rate their views on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being very important:
- 85% rated this as 5
- 14% rated this as 4
- 1% rated this as 3
Malaseb shampoo requires only one application per bath and vet nurses were asked how important they thought this was to their clients from a compliance perspective. Again, they were asked to rate from 1-5, with 5 being very important:
- 79% rated this 5
- 18% rated this 4
- 3% rated this 3
When asked to rate how easy Malaseb shampoo is to use, on a 1-5 scale, with 5 being the most difficult, the results were:
- 50% rated this as 1
- 22% rated this as 2
- 10% rated this as 3
- 15% rated this as 4
- 3% rated this as 5
In addition, of the vet nurses surveyed, 38% had used Malaseb on their own pet, as well as clients’ pets. 52% had just used Malaseb on clients’ pets and 6% just on their own pet.
Approximately 1 in 5 of all cases a vet sees are related to dermatology.
Carol Morgan, product manager at Dechra Veterinary Products, said: “At Dechra, we understand that dermatology is a hugely important area for veterinary practices. By conducting surveys, like the one on Malaseb, we can find out more about what vet nurses think of our products and refine our product offerings accordingly. Surveys are just one part of our Dechra Derma initiative, which will provide vets and vet nurses with a host of continual support.”
