Dedicated veterinary nurse Laura Brind is preparing to tackle the 100km London to Brighton Hike to boost funds for the animal home where she works.

Laura hopes to raise as least £750 for The Mayhew Animal Home in Kensal Green, north-west London.

The walk begins in Richmond on the morning of Saturday, May 24, and ends the following day in Brighton.

Laura and her partner John will be walking through the night to complete the challenge.

Laura said: “I work in the veterinary clinic at the home and absolutely love what I do and what the charity does as an organisation.”

More than just a rescue and rehoming centre, The Mayhew works all year to promote responsible pet ownership and support people to ensure all animals are healthy and happy.

“In the clinic we provide round-the-clock veterinary care for all the animals that come into The Mayhew, but we also offer a number of community-based services for outpatients too including free and low-cost neutering and nurse’s clinics,” Laura said.

“I have taken part in a number of fund-raising events previously and I am really excited about this next challenge, particularly as it is for a cause so close to me.

“I have seen first-hand how far compassion and kindness goes, and nothing beats seeing an animal in need recover and find a loving new home – which I am lucky to experience on a daily basis thanks to all the people who support The Mayhew.

“We are hoping to raise £750 in sponsorship to help us continue the amazing work the charity does.”
