A vet will appear on television show Bargain Hunt on September 11 to pit her wits against other amateur collectors at an antiques fair.

Kay Stevenson and her mother Catriona with Bargain Hunt presenter Tim Wonnacott.

Kay Stevenson, who locums in central and western Scotland, joined her mother Catriona in the show’s red team to take on the blue team in a search for the best bargains.

Kay, who graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011, said filming the show, which took place over two days, had been great fun.

“Our team expert was Paul Laidlaw, who was lovely,” she said. “The presenter Tim Wonnacott was truly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about antiques. He was very professional and knew all the contestants’ names and biographies.

“He often buys himself items at the fairs and off camera asked me whether I thought the 30cm long mercury thermometer he had just bought was a rectal thermometer. I’m a small animal vet, so I told him I’ve certainly never used one so big!”

To win a place on the show, Kay and her mother were interviewed on the telephone and then completed a live interview day, where they spoke on camera and took part in Bargain Hunt-themed games.

The episode will air on BBC One at 12.15pm.
