A Hampshire-based small animal vet has created a new digital application to promote responsible dog ownership.
Working with smartphone app providers UK App Centre Ltd, Chris Queen, from the Nine Mile Veterinary Group, developed the mobile app called Mucky Pup, which allows owners to record their pet’s vital statistics and manage other aspects of a dog’s ongoing veterinary care.
Information collated by Mucky Pup, which is available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch includes:
- Breed information,
- Body condition score,
- Insurance information, and
- Microchipping details.
Mr Queen said: “Mucky Pup is an intelligent app that will remind you when your dog’s vaccination booster is due, depending on whether the vaccination is a primary course or standard booster, and will even take into account the age of the dog and which products can be used at that age.”
As well as reminding owners of their animal’s treatment requirements Mucky Pup gives owners access to a database of vets, dog sitters and groomers and find the location of their nearest practice in an emergency. It also allows owners to share their pet’s information online with other carers and vets involved in the animal’s treatment regime.
Other fun features include a walk-tracker, which enables users to time and plot their favourite dog walking routes, and advice on training, grooming and exercise.
Sean Fane, director of UK App Centre, said: “We wanted an app that promoted responsible pet ownership and have therefore installed features such as prompts when your dog’s vaccination is overdue and the option to call or email your vet to book an appointment.”
