Two veterinary surgeons from Devon have invested in their first practice, continuing the employment of eight local staff.
With the support of Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, John and Laura Mather, who met at the University of Cambridge, have bought Greenbay Veterinary Surgery in Walnut Road, Torquay.
It also has a satellite branch in Paignton, with both practices specialising in treating small animals.
The deal secured the future of the practice following the retirement of the previous owner.
Mr Mather is an experienced surgeon and will now provide on-site bone and joint surgery, as well as other advanced procedures.
Mrs Mather has a special interest in the treatment of pet heart disease and has plans to invest in a specialist ultrasound machine to help detect the early warning signs of the condition.
“We have wanted our own practice for some time and when the opportunity arose to buy Greenbay Vets, we were thrilled,” said Mrs Mather.
“Through the purchase of the two branches we are able to keep eight members of staff, who worked for the previous owner, and now have plans to invest in further services, such as new ultrasound machinery and advanced surgery.”
Lloyds Bank health care banking consultant Clive Rowe said: “It is rewarding to work with people like John and Laura who are passionate about what they do and are incredibly customer-centric and determined to provide the best possible care.”
