The Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) has given advance notice that it intends to offer both a Research Training Scholarship and a UFAW 3Rs Liaison Group Studentship later this year.

UFAW to offer Scholarship & Studentship in 2010Potential applicants will have time to consider ideas for possible projects over the summer before the awards are open for application in autumn 2010.

The Research Training Scholarship scheme, introduced by UFAW in 1998, is designed to encourage high quality science likely to lead to substantial advances in animal welfare. This award (likely to be up to a maximum of £100,000) is to enable a veterinary or science graduate to undertake a three-year programme of research leading to a degree at the doctorate level.

The UFAW 3Rs Liaison Group funds research that is likely to lead to practical solutions for advancing the welfare of laboratory animals. The Studentship (likely to be up to a maximum of £75,000) is to enable a promising graduate to undertake a three-year programme of research leading to a degree at the doctorate level within the British Isles in any aspect of the Replacement, Reduction, or Refinement of laboratory animal use.
