A Lancashire-based vet nurse is celebrating after a cat she put on a diet and exercise plan posted an impressive 10-inch loss from his waist.
When Gemma Cooke, an RVN working at the Ian McConnell Veterinary Practice in Mossley, was first visited by domestic shorthair Luke and his owner, the fat feline weighed in at 9.8kg. His waist, meanwhile, was an impressive 26 inches, and, according to Miss Cooke – who runs a weight loss clinic at the practice – he looked “quite uncomfortable“.
“The owner was unaware he was overweight and had no idea Luke was in dangerous territory with his health if he was to continue piling on the pounds,” she said.
“Since then, the owner has worked extremely hard, with her mother’s help, to exercise Luke and has followed a strict diet plan, with many ups and downs along the way.”
On his last monthly weigh-in, which took place on Valentine’s Day, Luke registered a weight of 6.77kg, meaning he had lost more than 3kg. However, the more outstanding news is that he has lost a stunning amount of fat from his waist – an entire 10 inches.
“Luke’s waist is now only 16 inches and he seems much more comfortable and content,” said Miss Cooke.
“He still has a little way to go with his weight loss, but is constantly losing weight with his diet and daily exercises. His owner is over the moon with his progress and I am very proud of her and Luke for working so hard and doing so well.”
