Cave Veterinary Specialists is on schedule to open an innovative, state-of-the-art referral centre in Somerset in early November 2010. The centre will be one of very few of its size and kind in the UK and will offer referring vets a south-west based centre of clinical excellence in veterinary medicine and surgery.
The centre, at West Buckland, near Wellington, Somerset, will specialise in dogs and cats suffering complicated or very serious conditions. It also aims to offer outstanding and sophisticated clinical expertise in modern, purpose built premises with state-of-the-art facilities and a team of two specialists, both well known in the veterinary world, seven veterinary nurses and five administrative staff.
The new centre was the idea of husband and wife team Tom and Claire Cave – Tom a renowned specialist in the field of animal oncology and veterinary internal medicine and Claire a veterinary nurse with over 18 years experience.
They have chosen a conveniently reached location with plenty of free parking and a generous amount of space to exercise animals. Putting their clients at ease in such a clinical environment will be of paramount importance to the team.
The significant project is running to schedule and due to open at the beginning of November. The centre represents an important new local employer, employing receptionist/administrative staff as well as veterinary nurses and clinicians.
Mr Cave said: “This is an extremely exciting step for us. Having been a successful referral centre for six years, we will now have our own, state-of-the-art premises and be able to offer clients much more in terms of facilities and services. We have been dreaming of this for many years and the site just off the motorway in Somerset offers us everything we’d been hoping for. It’s a great opportunity to be able to build, from scratch, exactly the centre you’d want, allowing us to offer the facilities we believe are needed and to have the space to expand.
“Our initial footprint covers over 7,000ft2 with a vast prep room, kennelling for thirty patients, two fluoroscopic-ready surgical theatres, and separate suites for digital radiography, endoscopy, ultrasonography and chemotherapy. We plan to build on regular MRI availability with a permanent CT within the next twelve months.”
