The Kennel Club has announced that the grand final of Scruffts – which aims to find the crossbreed of the year – is to take place during Crufts for the first time in March 2013.
Crossbreed dogs will be sharing the limelight with their pedigree pals next year, with the grand final of Scruffts taking place at Crufts 2013.
For the first time in its twelve year history, the crossbreed dog competition run by The Kennel Club (KC) will culminate at Crufts at the NEC in Birmingham in March.
The winners of the four Scruffts categories – Child’s Best Friend, Golden Oldie, Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch and Most Handsome Crossbreed Dog – are being invited to Crufts to battle it out for the ultimate title of Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year.
Crossbreeds have been taking part in Crufts in activities such as agility and flyball, but this is the first time a crossbreed-only event will be taking place at the world’s largest dog show.
Scruffts, sponsored by petfood manufacturer James Wellbeloved, has held heats across the UK throughout 2012 and the winners of each category in every heat have been invited to Discover Dogs in London to compete in the class finals on November 10. Winners of the four classes at Discover Dogs will then go on to Crufts 2013.
KC secretary Caroline Kisko said: “We’re very much looking forward to seeing the four class winners come to Crufts for the final next year. We have had some fantastic Scruffts champions in the past and I am sure we can expect to see a really special dog take the title once again.”
