After a private vote by council members, Peter Jinman (pictured) has been officially accepted as junior vice-president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

After a private vote by council members, Peter Jinman (pictured) has been officially accepted as junior vice-president of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).

Mr Jinman, a past president of the BVA, will take on his new role on RCVS day (July 3) and, with RCVS approval, will become president in 2010.

Mr Jinman was nominated by Bob Partridge, Neil Gorman, Sheila Crispin and Brian Jennings. No other candidates were nominated.

Mr Jinman is senior partner of The Laurels Veterinary Group inHerefordshire working with farm, equine and companion animals. He is a Fellow of the CharteredInstitute of Arbitrators and has been a member of the Government’s Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC) since May 2000, to which he was appointed deputy chairman in 2005.

Mr Jinman was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June2004 for services to the veterinary profession, and was presented with the BVA’s Chiron Award at the association’s 2007 Congress.
