The Kennel Club is urging dog lovers everywhere to sign its new government petition to end the cruel practice of puppy farming and educate future puppy buyers on how to buy a dog responsibly.
As a campaign close to its heart, the Kennel Club is urging dog lovers everywhere to sign its new government petition to end the cruel practice of puppy farming and educate future puppy buyers on how to buy a dog responsibly.
The online petition, hosted by HM Government on its recently launched e-petitions site, is titled “Help End Puppy Farming” and states: “We, the undersigned, call on the Government to introduce minimum standards such as those adopted as part of the Kennel Club’s Assured Breeder Scheme for the breeding of all dogs in the UK, in order to help bring an end to puppy farming.”
The petition can be found at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/8557
Kennel Club Health and Breeder Service manager Bill Lambert said of the petition: “We firmly believe that adopting the principles of the Assured Breeder Scheme could go a long way towards eradicating bad breeding practices, together with an ongoing public awareness campaign.
“It’s a big ask but if we can get 100,000 signatures then the issue could be debated in the House of Commons. Anything we can do to highlight the problem is for the better, so any support the public can give to this would be massively appreciated; whether this is by posting the petition on social networking pages, emailing it on to friends and family or simply just signing it themselves.”
