Quintin McKellar, principal of the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), is stepping down in order to take up the position of vice-chancellor at The University of Hertfordshire, with effect from January 4, 2011.

Quintin McKellar, principal of the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), is stepping down in order to take up the position of vice-chancellor at The University of Hertfordshire, with effect from January 4, 2011.

RVC principal Quintin McKellarProfessor McKellar said: “I have enjoyed my time as principal of the RVC enormously. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to lead such a talented group of colleagues and to have seen the development and progress of so many hard working and gifted students.

“During my six years as principal of the RVC a great deal has been achieved and I know the RVC is well positioned to continue to be one of the pre-eminent veterinary schools in the world.”

The search for, and processes to appoint, a new principal are currently being overseen by the chairman of council, The Rt Hon The Baroness Shephard of Northwold

Professor McKellar added: “The next few years will present considerable challenges for the Higher Education sector but I am very confident the college is in an extremely strong position to cope with those challenges.”
