A veterinary professional is counting down the days until she shaves off her hair for charity.
Valerie Pollard, a practice manager at Portland Vets in East Grinstead, is preparing to take part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s Brave the Shave fund-raising event on 17 September and hopes to raise £1,000 for the charity in the process.
“I am feeling pretty nervous about it,” Miss Pollard said.
“I know it’s still nothing compared to what cancer patients have to go through and it seemed a great way to show some solidarity with them while raising money for Macmillan and its wonderful nurses.
“My colleagues are being very supportive, as are friends and family, and I’m more than halfway to my fund-raising target. I’m hoping I may have a reasonable head of hair again by Christmas.”
Miss Pollard will have her head shaved at HJ Gentleman on London Road, East Grinstead and hopes to donate her locks to a charity that makes wigs for patients undergoing chemotherapy.
