A France-based animal health company has vowed to bring innovative products and increased levels of practical support to the UK’s veterinary market.

It is the market leader in oral antibiotics for cats and dogs in France and second in dermatology treatments. It leads in pet dermatological products in the US.

Sogeval also has medicines for canine and feline heart disease and kidney disorders, a pain management range, dentistry products and nutritional supplements for cats and dogs. On the livestock side, it is a leader in farm biosecurity and is a livestock mass-medication oral treatment specialist.

Now, the company, headquartered in Brittany, is turning its attention to the UK, and plans to introduce its full range as authorisations allow. The first will be a chewable, easy-to-dose marbofloxacin tablet range, Efex, which will be officially launched at the London Vet Show this month.

Niall McFerran, country manager for the UK and Ireland, said the UK would have the same product focus as in France, and water-soluble and nutraceutical products would be introduced for the poultry and pig sectors, to create a “balanced portfolio” of farm and companion animal products. Customers here would also benefit from “better levels of technical, sales and marketing support”, as well as the benefits of Sogeval’s research and development programme.

He said: “We did a great job at Alstoe in terms of working within the constraints of what was quite a small company with not a huge infrastructure, but suddenly we have gone up several notches; we are now in a different league and we can offer practices in the UK the knowledge and expertise that comes out of this facility here, and we can translate that into much better support for our UK customers.

“I wish we could tell you about some of the things that are in the pipeline. Believe me, you will see from this team a consistent and regular programme of new product introductions, and within those there will be new ideas we will introduce to the market place.”

Sogeval has three state-of-the-art manufacturing plants, a research and development facility and administrative headquarters in Laval, 190 miles west of Paris. It employs nearly 300 people worldwide.

Sogeval in the UK and Ireland will be headquartered in York, where Alstoe, which had a turnover of £9m, was based. The sale to Sogeval was completed in January, 2013. Alstoe’s existing product range will continue and products from the Sogeval stable will be introduced as regulatory approval allows.
