Leading pet insurance provider Petplan has donated £500 to a dog and cat home in Edinburgh, helping the charity kick off its brand new animal rehabilitation programme.
Each month, the insurer randomly selects one of its registered animal charities in a prize draw to receive £500, and December’s recipient, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, is Scotland’s oldest animal charity, looking after lost and abandoned dogs and cats for 130 years. It takes in more than 1,000 stray and unwanted dogs and cats each year and aims to never turn away any dog or cat brought in for help.
Francesca Greaves, community fund-raiser for the home, said: “The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home would like to say a big thank you to Petplan for its kind donation of £500. The money comes at the perfect time as we are due to kick off our animal enrichment programme in January and the donation will help purchase interesting and mentally stimulating toys for our dogs and cats to help keep them entertained and engaged.”
Head of marketing at Petplan Isabella von Mesterhazy said: “At Petplan we work with more than 1,200 animal charities. We understand the challenges animal charities face and provide four weeks’ free insurance to anyone rehoming a pet from one of our animal charities.”
