Symposia on flea control and leishmaniosis are being offered to extend the learning experience at this year’s Southern European Veterinary Conference (SEVC) in Barcelona, which takes place from September 29 to October 2, 2011.
The event already features the most comprehensive scientific programme available in Europe, including a unique range of practical workshops and wet labs.
Virbac is hosting a symposium called “Advanced Prevention against Leishmaniosis” on September 30. Leading speakers from academia and Virbac will cover the latest developments on the management of this challenging disease, including the first registered vaccine against leishmaniosis in Europe, CaniLeash.
Elanco Companion Animal Health, which recently launched Comfortis (an oral flea treatment for dogs) is hosting its symposium on October 1. Leading dermatologists and parasitologists including Chiara Noli from Italy, Craig Griffin from the USA, Lluis Ferrer and Guadalupe Miro from Spain will discuss how vets can improve owner compliance with preventive health regimes. Ernest Ward from the USA will explain the potential value of flea control to vets in practice.
The SEVC aims to present the latest advances in animal care to the veterinary community from Europe and beyond in a professional but relaxed environment. Organised jointly between the Spanish veterinary association AVEPA and the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC), it offers the largest scientific programme outside the USA, as well as workshops and wet labs, which are unique outside the USA.
A major trade exhibition runs alongside the event with more than 100 international companies.
Joaquin Aragones, executive director of the event, said: “The heavyweight support we’ve received from the veterinary pharmaceutical industry is great news for delegates who will have the opportunity to benefit from the additional symposia run by sponsors and to learn first-hand about some exciting new products being launched this year.”
All lectures at SEVC are provided in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation. Some rooms will also offer translation into Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Russian.
