John Murray, Moredun Scientific’s head of biosafety, has been appointed as the new managing director, and will succeed Prof Willie Donachie when he retires in December.

In his current position, Mr Murray has led the set up and development of the Moredun Scientific biosafety business and has significant experience in working with the global Animal Health Industry in his previous role as head of operations.

Having graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1984 with a BSc in Agricultural Chemistry, Mr Murray took a position at the Moredun Research Institute, working on bovine/ovine respiratory vaccines, before moving to Moredun Scientific.

Of his appointment, he said: “I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to lead Moredun Scientific. The company has a strong reputation in both the Animal Health Industry and the broader biopharmaceutical industry. I look forward to working with the Moredun Scientific team and our clients as we continue to take our business forward.”

Prof Peter Wells, chairman of Moredun Scientific, said: “The board is delighted that John has agreed to become our new Managing Director, he brings a wealth of experience to the role and I look forward to working closely with him.”

He also thanked Prof Donachie for the “very significant contribution” he had made to the company.
