Fasinex 100 10% w/v oral suspension from Novartis Animal Heath is a new dual-species cattle and sheep flukicide which will be available in the UK from early December 2010.

The product is an evolution of Fasinex 5%, used in the treatment of fluke in sheep, and Fasinex 10%, used for cattle, bringing the efficiencies and advantages associated with dual species sheep and cattle treatment to farmers.

As well as being more convenient for farmers, simultaneous treatment of both species can reduce the incidence of re-infection.

According to Novartis, Fasinex 100 offers the sheep farmer a reduction in meat withhold (from 56 days for Fasinex 5% to 35 days with Fasinex 100), adding increased flexibility when treating store lambs. Meat withhold for cattle remains the same as Fasinex 10% at 56 days for cattle.

Vet Debby Brown, of Castle Vets, Barnard Castle, Co Durham, said: “I think this will be a useful product. The biggest advantage would be when the time of pre-tupping for sheep coincides with post-housing for cattle.”

To add additional convenience and efficiency for farmers, Fasinex 100 will be launched with the innovative Fasinex Optiline Drencher, which is easier to use then traditional drenchers and causes much less strain to the hand. The Optiline drencher’s radical design makes drenching easier, faster and less tiring, cutting down on time and labour costs.
