Cattle producers can now access herd fertility information via a range of multimedia devices, thanks to updated software from diagnostics company NMR.
The company’s Silent Herdsman’s system picks up heat and fertility information from cow’s collars and relays it to touch screen monitors in the dairy.
The new 2.7 version of the product allows producers and technicians to pick up that same data from their smartphones and tablet computers.
NMR field manager Jonathan Davies said: “This is really convenient for staff as they work around the farm, but it is equally valuable if they are off-site.
“Providing there’s an internet connection and the device is linked to the Silent Herdsman system – which is easy to do – the details can be accessed immediately, in the UK or abroad.”
The system allows up to three people to be emailed with live alerts of cows when the animals are on heat and information is updated every 20 minutes.
New additions to Silent Herdsman 2.7 also include service history, and service, PD lists and expected calving dates.
