KC Dog, the Kennel Club’s group in place to help responsible dog owners protect their rights, is alerting dog owners in South Wales to a dog control order consultation currently taking place in Neath Port Talbot.

The proposed Dog Exclusion and Dogs on Leads orders would directly replace an existing bye-law which currently applies on the Aberavon beach and promenade. This prohibits dogs on the beach and requires dogs to be on a lead at all times on the promenade between May 1 and September 30 each year.

Caroline KiskoKennel Club communications director Caroline Kisko said: “Dog control orders are becoming more common as councils attempt to find ways to control dog fouling and reign in irresponsible dog owners. Unfortunately this often means responsible dog owners are also penalised and have to suffer restrictions.

“Frequently, public consultations come and go without the majority of the public knowing about them or having a chance to have their say. KC Dog aims to alert people to dog control orders consultations and therefore ensure the fairest outcome for all.”
