Construction company Morgan Ashurst has won a £2.2 million contract to build an equinesurgery and create an intensive care unit at the RVC Equine Referral Hospital in North Mymms, Hertfordshire.
The firm will build a single-storey, steel framed surgery which will feature red bricks and timber cladding. The new building will accommodate two treatment theatres, recovery boxes, offices and equipment stores. A monorail hoist will allow staff to move horses easily from the surgery to the recovery areas.
The new building will be connected to the existing Large Animal Clinical Care Centre (LACC), where Morgan Ashurst is providing a mezzanine floor as well as extra examination and consulting rooms. The firm will also modify an existing barn to create an intensive care unit.
The RVC Equine Referral Hospital provides the most advanced treatment available to some of the country’s most valuable race horses and other privately-owned animals.
The project is due to be completed in January 2010.
