SQP qualified VNs completing Merials equine parasitology training programme (Equine parasites and their control) can now claim 15 CPD points towards their total, following accreditation from AMTRA.
The eight-module manual, devised and written by Ridgeway Science in conjunction with Merial Animal Health, contains essential advice on the key aspects of parasitology.
Product manager Claire Edmunds said: “Each of the eight modules covers a specific topic, these build up to provide a comprehensive educational and management tool, and those completing the eight modules qualify for a total of 15 AMTRA points towards their annual CPD total.”
Claire believes that the recent accreditation proves what a valuable tool the training programme is. She said: “We know that worming can be a confusing topic for many horse owners and they frequently turn to their SQP qualified VN or vet for advice. This modular course is designed to provide essential CPD information, enabling SQPs to advise with confidence, using the most up-to-date information. The fact that this module has achieved this level of accreditation shows just how comprehensive and detailed it is.
“Depending on their classification, SQPs need to achieve between 30 and 70 points annually to retain their SQP status, and this is a large chunk of that. Each module is designed to provide achievable goals during each study period which should take no longer than 60 minutes. At the end of the manual there is a quiz giving SQPs the opportunity to qualify for their CPD points. On passing the quiz they will be awarded 15 CPD points, a certificate and badge to acknowledge their achievement.”
