The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is encouraging vets to complete a questionnaire on prescribing under the cascade.
The online survey aims to find out vets’ general knowledge of the cascade, as well as finding out more about general prescribing practices.
According to the VMD, the European Commission is considering amending legal provisions relating to the cascade as part of its review of the Veterinary Medicinal Products (VMP) directive, which provides the basis for the UK controls on veterinary medicines set out nationally in the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.
Once the directorate has more information about how the cascade is used on a daily basis by vets, it says it will be “better placed” to represent the UK’s interests and hopefully influence the commission’s review.
The questionnaire can be found on the VMD’s website.
It should, says the directorate, take 15 to 20 minutes to complete.
Partially completed surveys can be saved and completed at a later date and all responses will be on an anonymous basis. The questionnaire will be available until July 12.
