Dechra Veterinary Products has unveiled a “hard-hitting campaign supporting veterinary professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of otitis externa”.

Dechra It's Time to ChangeThe “It’s Time to Change” campaign was launched at World Congress amid the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance, providing a range of guidance, information and case studies from key opinion leaders.

Dechra managing director Bob Parmenter said: “Without the appropriate treatment combined with correct owner compliance, antimicrobial resistance could be a major issue for the companion animal veterinary profession. That’s why we have launched this campaign and we’re looking forward to speaking to delegates about why it’s time to change.”

Senior brand manager Larry King added: “We were pleased to welcome so many delegates who were interested in why it’s time to change. We were able to demonstrate our awareness of concerns over antimicrobial resistance and show how we can provide assistance in helping to diagnose the organisms associated with the infection, and support in choosing the correct approach to control, as well as help in educating owners to apply and use treatments correctly.”

The aim of the campaign is to encourage identification of the organism causing infection through cytology, support the selection of the correct treatment and assist with educating clients on how to correctly apply and use products. The cytology guidance has been produced in association with veterinary dermatologists Peter Forsythe and Ariane Neuber, who was a congress speaker.

Referral dermatologist Sue Paterson was also available at congress to discuss cases with delegates.

A new website was launched to coincide with the campaign, which provides online CPD focusing on skin and ear cytology.
