James Cooke, IT systems administrator for NKR Veterinary Specialists in Kent, jumped from a plane to raise more than £600 for the UK’s only pet blood bank charity.

Working in the veterinary hospital and seeing dogs benefit from blood transfusions using blood products collected by the charity, James was inspired to take on the scary challenge of jumping from 12,000ft and free falling for 5,000ft at 120mph to raise money for the cause.

Blood is taken to a state-of-the-art processing unit in Loughborough and is then processed into packed red blood cells and fresh plasma and supplied to practices across the UK.

Every unit of blood collected from a donor can help to save the lives of up to four other dogs. As a charity it needs the support of the public and pet owners to ensure it can continue to provide vital life-saving products to UK veterinary practices.

Dog owner James took the plunge on August 6 with the help of instructor Richard Parrott of Headcorn Parachute Club at Headcorn Airfield in Kent.

He said of the experience: “No sooner had it felt like I was climbing into the plane than I was back down on the ground safely. After a whirlwind of emotions, many of which I could not identify what they were, I can look back and say it was a truly amazing experience.

“I could not be happier with how the whole event went. I have yet to collect all the forms and get a complete total; however so far we have raised over £600 for Pet Blood Bank UK.”

Although James has reached his “official” target, further donations made via JustGiving page will go to support the essential life-saving work of Pet Blood Bank UK. You can also text your donation by texting ‘JUMP55 £1‘ to 70070. Texts are free and you can make the £ any amount you wish.

He added: “On behalf of Pet Blood Bank UK and NKR Veterinary Specialists, I cannot thank everyone enough for their support and generosity to this event and cause.”
