Horse owners across the UK are being called on to help give a snapshot of the health of the equine nation.

BEVA and the Blue Cross are calling on owners to report back on their animalsThe National Equine Health Survey (NEHS) is organised by the Blue Cross and the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA), and will be running online from May 5 to 11, 2013.

Previous NEHS surveys have revealed prevalence data about a range of diseases and conditions, such as lameness, weight issues and colic, and results have been used to shape owner education campaigns.

Gemma Taylor, Blue Cross education officer, said: “We are urging every horse owner to spare just five minutes every year to complete the survey so we can continue to build valuable knowledge to help improve the future health of our nation’s horses.”

Everyone who fills in the NEHS will be entered into a prize draw, with prizes including tickets for a family of four to Olympia, Spillers feed vouchers worth £100 and a behind the scenes tour of the RVC’s equine referral hospital.
