The fully subscribed event – due to take place at Bigbury Golf Club in Devon on Thursday, May 14 – is being organised by retired Plymouth vet John Bower.

Mr Bower, who is also a trustee of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, said: “The event is very generously sponsored by the veterinary industry, with the main sponsors this year being Petplan, Zoetis, Centaur Services, Henry Schein, Independent Vetcare, the Veterinary Insurance Agency and Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

“Last year we raised some £4,000 on the day and this year, with more golfers, I am hoping to approach £5,000.”

A charity auction will be held afterwards in a bid to raise more funds.
