Vets and nurses in practice can sign up to watch a global conference on canine vector-borne diseases (CVBD) set to take place later this month.

The 2013 CVBD conference is sponsored by Bayer Animal Health and will be broadcast live from St Petersburg, Russia, on April 17, 2013.

Speakers will cover diseases such as Lyme borreliosis, The conference will look at a range of canine diseases transmitted by fleas, ticks, flies and other vectorsbabesiosis and leishmaniosis in 120 minute sessions, which will also include clinical case reviews, question and answer sessions and audience voting.

Ronan Fitzgerald, customer and technical services manager at Bayer, said: “Each country has its specific occurrence of CVBDs depending on climate and endemic vectors. With the freedom of movement allowed by the Pet Travel Scheme, veterinary surgeons in the UK need to be aware of the very real danger of dogs being imported from other countries that have already been exposed to such diseases.”
