A Somerset animal sanctuary is more than £300 better off thanks to some serious pedal power.

Jo Cox presents cheque to Linda Baker from the sanctuary.

Jo Chard cycled 100 miles during the Wiggle New Forest 100 Sportive cycling event to raise £334.50 for the Ferne Animal Sanctuary.

Sharon Pavey, head of fundraising and marketing at the sanctuary in Wambrook, near Chard, said: “Jo’s achievement cycling 100 miles is amazing – and on behalf of all the dogs that pass through our doors on the way to their loving forever homes, we are extremely grateful.

“We would love to hear from others who fancy taking on an extreme challenge to raise funds for the Sanctuary, whether that is cycling, running, mountain climbing, skydiving or something equally as fun and daring.”

Ferne Animal Sanctuary launched its £1 million “New Digs for Dogs” in March 2014 to build a new enhanced kennel block, improved grooming and veterinary care room, information hub, social unit, offices, reception and purpose built rehoming centre at their site in Somerset.

Fundraising packs for the appeal, along with details of how to donate or volunteer can be obtained by calling 01460 65214 or by visiting www.ferneanimalsanctuary.org
