Cephacare flavour is the latest product in Animalcare’s Care range – a cephalexin-based antibiotic that is said to offerimproved client compliance and easy dosing.
Animalcare market manager, Tony Liepman, said: “We have made Cephacare flavour appealing for pets, thanks to the beef flavouring while the scored tablets make administration easy for clients, maximising compliance. The competitive price ensures clients and vets get a great deal, essential at a time when everyone is watching costs.”
Cephacare flavour has a vegetable-based beef flavour incorporated, rather than coated, that Animalcare believe will improve compliance.
Tablets are available in 50mg, 250mg and 500mg strengths and are scored to enable pet owners to accurately dose cats and dogs across a wide range of body weights. Storage and dispensing is further simplified by the new, compact blister packs and dispensing envelopes.
Cephacare flavour, licensed for both cats and dogs, is said to be highly effective in the treatment of skin infection particularly pyoderma as well as in respiratory, urinary tract and gastrointestinal infections.
Cephalexin’s proven efficacy, broad spectrum of activity and excellent safety profile makes it a standard in treating skin infections for cats and dogs. It is highly effective against beta-lactamase producers, including S.pseudintermedius, which is responsible for 90 per cent of pyodermas, according to C. Noli in the BSAVA Manual of Small Animal Dermatology.
With a wide range of pack sizes coupled to three different strengths, Cephacare flavour can be easily matched to the patient’s requirements whatever the bodyweight, “In particular, given its small size and divisibility, the 50mg tablet will appeal to owners of cats and small dogs,” said Mr Liepman.
