A three-day CPD trip combining soft tissue surgery CPD with salmon fishing in Iceland has been announced by Improve International.
Dick White from Dick White Referrals will deliver CPD sessions on soft tissue surgery during the visit while leisure time will be spent experiencing salmon fishing on the River Midfjardara, known in Iceland as ‘The Queen of the Rivers’.
Delegates for the “Surgery and Salmon” CPD will fly to Reykjavik on August 22, returning on August 27.
Director of Valley Vets in Cardiff and life-long fisherman, Rob Harry, attended in 2013 and is returning this year. He said: “The opportunity to learn from experts such as Dick in a small, friendly and informal group was unique.”
“We had a choice of topics, but Dick was happy to discuss any topics or cases raised by the group. We still had plenty of time to get outdoors where the landscape was breathtaking, the fishing incredible and I landed my first salmon. I really can’t wait to go back.”
Managing director of Improve International, David Babington added: “This trip proved so popular last year that we just had to do it again.”
“It’s a great opportunity to combine some small group instruction in small animal surgery with world class fly fishing for Atlantic salmon.”
Improve International was founded in 1998. Based in Swindon, it provides CPD in a range of formats for veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practice managers to help them develop their skills and knowledge, using a combination of review lectures, case-based discussion and where, applicable, hands-on practical sessions.
It has recently been awarded a contract for the training and revalidation of Official Veterinarians (OVs) in England, Scotland and Wales by the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA).
