Cat Professional is launching the UK’s first RCVS specialist run feline geriatric clinics which senior cats can attend for a complete health “MOT”.
The clinics are a joint project between the company and the Royal(Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and will be held at the Hospitalfor Small Animals on Saturday mornings.
Cat Professional ( www.catprofessional.com ) specialises in providing expert feline veterinary care and advice to both veterinary professionals and cat owners.
The consultations – which are by referral only – aim to identify treatable problems which are common in geriatric cats and will include a detailed history, physical examination, blood pressure measurement, ophthalmic examination and basic urinalysis. If necessary, and following discussion, further tests may be performed with the owner’s consent. Owners will then be provided with a full report which will detail all results plus treatment recommendations (if appropriate).
Sarah Caney, founder and CEO of Cat Professional, is keen that cat owners maintain the relationship with their existing vet, therefore a copy of each report will also be sent to the referring vet to ensure continuity of treatment.
Dr Caney said: “As I have a particular interest in feline geriatrics the clinics are a fantastic opportunity to conduct further research into this area – I hope that the knowledge gained will benefit veterinary professionals, cat owners and most importantly, geriatric cats.”
Dr Caney is one of only a handful of specialists in feline medicine working in the UK and is recognised internationally as an expert with several books published on topics including feline kidney failure and lower urinary tract disease.
