Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, has announced its four-legged finalists for the 2010 Dogs Trust Honours – the doggy version of the Pride of Britain awards.

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, has announced its four-legged finalists for the 2010 Dogs Trust Honours – the doggy version of the Pride of Britain awards.

2010 Dogs Trust Honours16 devoted dogs have been shortlisted from over 300 nominations received from across the UK. The amazing stories include a dog who helps her 7-year-old owner get through her daily dialysis treatment, a doggy star of the West End stage and a fundraising pooch who has raised £32,000 for charity through asking members of the public to “Pay for a Pat”. The lucky finalists were all nominated by members of the public and it’s now down to a panel of dog-loving stars to choose the winner. Alongside Dogs Trust CEO Clarissa Baldwin, this year’s judges include:

  •    Jo Page (Gavin and Stacey actress) and James Thornton (Emmerdale actor)
  •    Tamara Ecclestone (TV presenter)
  •    Anthony Head (Merlin actor)
  •    Joe Mott (Daily Star Sunday columnist)

Mrs Baldwin, said: “British dog lovers have been truly amazing in nominating man’s best friend for the 2010 Dogs Trust Honours. All sorts of canines are represented and all have truly wonderful stories – the judging panel and I will have a hard job choosing our winners. The awards ceremony is set to be a memorable and emotional evening which will touch even the hardest of hearts.”

  •    The Sun Hero Dog Award – for acts of “barksome” bravery;
  •    Technik Technology Golden Oldie Award – for any special dog over seven years old;
  •    Pets at Home Dogged Devotion Award – for dogs who provide emotional support;
  •    Petplan Dog Star in the Making Award – for talented pet dogs;
  •    Celebrity Canine Award – for dogs in the public eye.

Award winners and their owners will be invited to attend the glamorous Dogs Trust Honours ceremony in West London on June 3, where they will mingle with VIP dog lovers and their pets.
